All good things...

must come to an end. Sadly, today was the short and sweet end to a lovely week at the spa. I zipped back over for a quick session with Atlanta-based Hill and the adoring women in his family (Mom, Grandma and Aunt).

One last parting shot of this little cutie, and it was out the door and back home again for me.

The spa did a fabulous job of taking care of these special moms, grandmas, aunts, nannies and babies this week, and it was my absolute pleasure to document their stay!

Black and Whites...

Today I'm in a black and white sort of mood...the colors at the spa are gorgeous (bright blue pool, sage green couches, white marble floors) but after two days worth of color, I'm in the mood for something a little different.

Today we had a session while at the spa with cousins Jackson and Chris. Just two months apart in age, they live on different coasts. So their mommies (and their Nana) took this week as an opportunity to reconnect.

Meanwhile, classes continued today as scheduled.

Baby and Me swim class had the babies submerging today (and coming up smiling-they were adorable!):

The ever-important Baby and Me yoga, in which the mobile ones took over the class, slipping and sliding with the tangerine oil covering their naked little bodies while the nonmobile ones just soaked up the attention:

A quick stop again in the morning, and it's back to normal around here! I'll be glad to have my old routine back...and with some new appointments coming up for Ben it'll be good to have that commute out of my hair!

He's doing great, and I honestly think that if we didn't have to change his dressing we'd never know he was hurt. Kids truly are resilient little creatures!

Another relaxing day in paradise!

Today started at the spa with a 'baby and me' music class, courtesy of Music Together (and Miss Dana-who taught the classes I took with my two little ones a few years ago).

Let me tell you...it may have been two years since I sat through a Music Together class, but I still know all the words! (scary!)

Then, an interesting lunch with the art director from Similac who flew in from Chicago to supervise our shoot today. She brought the 'look book' (for lack of a better phrase) and we were both so thrilled to see that my style is just what the company is looking for in it's images!

Afterwards I had the chance to play with Miss Brooke and her gorgeous mommy (the grand prize winner of the contest Similac held for a week at the spa) and we really had an amazing time!

Afterwards it was Baby and Me swim time, and lots of splashing and chewing of rubber duckies ensued!

It's back to the spa (I mean, grind) tomorrow-so check back for more pictures of gorgeous kiddos!

What a day!

First-I had an amazing first day at The Greenhouse Spa's Baby and Me week (where was this event when my babies were little?). Moms and babies flew in from all over the US (not a one is from Texas-go figure!) and while the Moms enjoy a little r&r the babies have fun as well. Each has his (or her) own nanny in attendance, and I witnessed LOTS of love and cuddles...I'm sure there were be a few tears on Thursday when the Nannies say goodbye to their precious charges.

We'll be there for three more days, following the adventures of these little ones...so check back!

Second-thank you ALL for your prayers, well wishes, phone calls and wonderful emails. They all mean to the world to me! My little guy is doing GREAT, and I am becoming quite the dressing changer (which is something I could easily have lived the rest of my life NOT knowing how to do...but I digress). Ben was referred to the burn unit at a local hospital, and we're just waiting for the call to let us know when our appointment time is scheduled for (which tells me that it's NOT time sensitive, and so I do a little snoopy dance every time the phone does NOT ring). The dr. that peeked at it today said it looks great, and to keep doing what we're doing.

Also great news!

And so, this week is starting off with a bang! I get to look forward to three more days of gorgeous babies and their moms at a stunning location (with amazing natural light), followed by my four year old's first ballet recital, and the great news that my precious Ben is doing really well and starting to heal.

Learn from my mistakes...

Thursday night was the absolute worst night of my life. I was making dinner for the kids and Husband had just left for a guy's night. I was pouring the boiling pot of water and pasta into the colander in the sink when the pot slipped and a huge splash went into the sink and right back out, splashing Ben (who was about 2 feet away). He slipped and fell face down into the puddle of water, and by the time I scooped him up the skin on his arm and chest was peeling off.

I just started saying "Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God" and stripped off his t-shirt, threw a towel over him and tried to call Husband.

No answer. Typical.

I couldn't find my cell, so didn't have anyone else's numbers memorized.

I ran to the back of the house with Ben screaming the entire way to look for my phone and find my shoes so we could head to the ER. Sam ran behind us crying the whole way, completely naked and refusing to get dressed so we could go.

I tried Husband again-it rang and then went to voicemail. I called his parents (TG I was able to remember their number) and just started to freak out on the phone. I told them which ER I was going to and to meet me there.

I sat at Husband's computer and looked up the number of his friend he was meeting, and called him. the damn phone kept hanging up so the poor guy only go half the story, but knew enough to just FIND Husband, and he ended up running out into the street and flagging him down when he pulled up (chatting on the phone, of course).

I had my shoes on, Sam was dressed but crying, Ben was still in his towel, and I couldn't find my purse or the car keys (Husband had moved EVERYTHING, including my cell, and none of it was where I had left it). I tore around the house trying to find everything, and once it was located I shuffled the kids out the front door, locked it behind me, turned around....no car.

Husband had moved the car to the back of the house, and the gate had just been installed that day so I couldn't just run around to the side. we had to go BACK inside, locate the damn gate remote (which dh had also moved), load the kids up in the car (trying to buckle Ben in without touching his burn was horrible) and my cell started to ring.

Husband: "What happened. How could this happen?"

not exactly what you want to hear...I dissolved into tears and just started sobbing. I felt so inadequate-I couldn't even get my own kids into the car and to the ER. We were finally on the road and got to the ER. They took one look at his burn (the entire waiting room gasped) and whisked us back to start an IV and gave him morphine.

Husband showed up and apologized for his comments, and a little while later they debraded the wound and Ben was SO brave. He would flinch and suck in his breath, then look at me and whisper "I scared Mommy" or "'dat hurts Mommy".

they wrapped his chest up like a mummy (the burn is from his nipple to his diaper, and from his navel to his side. it's about the size of my hand.)

I have to clean the wound three times a day and scrub off all the cream...please pray for us as we go through this! The first few cleanings went well, but this morning's was horrendous. I was shaking like a leaf when it was finished and truly felt like I was going to pass out.

Afterwards Ben started to run a fever and I talked with the pediatric surgeon that we are set up to see on Monday and when he asked "Now, what happened?" I burst into tears. He probably thinks I'm losing it (maybe I am!).

We may or may not be admitted to the hospital for fluids and better pain management and wound care. Honestly, I'd rather go there right this second, just to know that someone else who actually knows what they are doing will be in charge. But for now, we watch and wait and hope he continues to be energetic and heals.

Just wanted to let you all know what was going on. And PLEASE-have a list of numbers by the phone. Not for the sitter, but for YOU! Husband has apologized a million times over for not answering my call (I've gotten on his case before about being hard to reach) and for moving all of my stuff (this is an ongoing issue-sadly, I think he's learned a lesson).

One last thing-if your child is ever burned the ER dr said we should put saran wrap on the wound. it keeps the air from hitting it and making it hurt as bad, keeps it clean, and doesn't leave debris behind like the towel I grabbed did.

Catching up...

FYI-moving stinks and I hope to never have to repeat the past four weeks.

It's not even worth going into detail, but rest assured that we had our fair share of moving debacles...not the least of which has been getting my business reestablished in the new space. To date I still don't have a consistent internet connection, and the crash from last week yielded five lost sessions. I felt like the anti-Santa Claus when I made those five phone calls last week, scheduling reshoots and promising to make it worth everyone's while.

BUT-as the dust settles I'm finding that I do love the new space. The viewing room is perfect, and if I can just find time to finish hanging sample prints I'll be good to go! Just don't get me started on my DSL line (or lack thereof...). At this point I feel like it's just amusing...how many people can I pay to NOT come back and finish the job? (In case you're wondering, that number is now up to two, with two others left scratching their heads...).

Good times.

In the past month we've still had sessions take place, and in no particular order, I owe these families a big fat THANK YOU for their patience and understanding as they've had to endure three weeks without a sneak peek. Can you imagine?

Isaac epitomizes childhood for me...freewheeling, always laughing, and with a grin forever on his face:

With parents like these, can you blame him?

The winner of our North Dallas Moms of Twins club auction-twins Drew and Molly with big sister Sydney:

Smiley Jackson (I have to show the serious side of this little guy-the smiles never stopped coming...he wins the easiest 6 month old of May award!)

Pretty Hadley and her big brother Alex came all the way from Granbury for their session in the park and we had a ball!

Anna's new family-she was adopted from Vietnam and her favorite thing to do is dance with her big brother...that, and ring around the rosy with her whole family. Can't you just feel the delight shining on her face?

Juliette-who tagged along at her cousins' session last week. Her own chance to shine is coming up in June and we were instant friends. I can't wait!

The littlest of Juliette's cousins, Ella Grace (who was convinced I was going to snatch her away from her adoring older sisters. This kiddo cried whenever she looked at me-a BIG change from her smiley 6 month session! I'm trying not to take it personally ;)

Middle sister Libby...she didn't have the issues of her little sister. Point a camera her way and she turns it on. But you haven't seen anything until you've watched the reaction when a camera points at...

DYLAN! Superstar Dylan just shines! Her little sisters sure have a wonderful example to look up to!

Everett wasn't too keen on this whole camera thing either...this face just cracks me up:

But just look at how her older brother Greyson looks at her. He was so patient and gentle and really worked hard to help her feel comfortable.

Jensen is busier than ever! What's that saying? You can't keep a good baby down? Trust me, we couldn't keep Jensen in one spot!!! I finally just ran ahead and let him work his way towards me, exploring the park as he went. He's going to be a big brother this fall!

Brothers Everett and Alex are repeat customers...they don't hesitate when Miss Jen points her camera and yells "Places!". Well trained little cuties, aren't they? ;)

Jake had a swinging good time at the park (third time was the charm for this poor family-the rain chased us away not once, not twice, but ALMOST three times. We got lucky that third time and the weather held...just barely!)

Jackson and Makenna are smilier (is that a word?) than ever! She's six months and adores her big brother (who dotes on her):

Brandon's Mom had quite the Mother's Day....

it involved flying with one of her twin boys to Houston to receive his new liver. He went into surgery at about 2 am this morning, and the liver is a perfect match. I can't wait to see Melissa's update on how he does today...please keep this precious family in your prayers. Also pray for the family that endured the unimaginable loss of their own precious baby boy on Mother's Day.

Chloe

I'm a little behind in posting previous sessions, so I'll play catch-up tomorrow.

Until then, feast your eyes on this sweet baby girl! Chloe is a precious little girl who is having a rough start to life, and I really felt like I had stepped back in time while at her home.

You see, my little boy (who's now 2.5) didn't just "spit up a little". And he wasn't just "a little fussy". He had reflux. Full blown. Screaming. Projectile. Internet gadgets. Medication. Specialists. You name it. I tried it. And probably wrote a review on it in my "spare time".

Poor Chloe is battling her own reflux monster, and her parents are fighting it right alongside her. They had that weary look about them that says "We are trying everything we can...it's not supposed to be this hard. Why can't we help our baby feel better and be happy like everyone else's baby?".

All this to say that I am so pleased with the images I'm peeking at now, and can't wait to show them to her parents (who worked their hineys off today).

So...to you two...I give you your smiling angel:

and your big eyed beauty:

And I wish you a night of sleep and that Chloe's meds kick in soon. Hang in there guys!
